Thursday Playlist: An Ode to Daria

When I return to school in September and my friends ask me what I did this summer I will tell them the truth; I worked at a summer camp and as a PA on my mom’s film; I took trips to Vermont and Boston; and started this here blog.

But there is an underbelly to this truth. Because while I did do all these things, they give the illusion that I am somehow incredibly busy, which, I assure you, I am not. In truth all I feel like I’ve done this summer is sit in my pajamas and fill my days with marathons of Daria a cartoon and cultural gem from the early 2000s.

Daria’s titular character is a sarcastic and apathetic teenage girl, whose favorite activity is ironically commenting on her school and home life. Considering she’s the guardian angel of my summer, I had no choice but to make an 8tracks homage to her.

With a slight focus on 90’s and early 2000’s alt rock, I assembled a playlist of songs I imagine she would like and that I hope captures her aura of disinterest, realism, and angst. Enjoy!
